How To Become A Real Estate Agent

Updated: Dec 29, 2022

Becoming a real estate agent in Florida involves a specific set of steps and requirements. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process of becoming a licensed real estate agent in the state of Florida:

Meet the minimum age requirement: In order to apply for a real estate license in Florida, you must be at least 18 years old.

Complete pre-licensing education: The state of Florida requires all aspiring real estate agents to complete 63 hours of pre-licensing education before taking the state licensing exam. This education can be completed through a state-approved school or online course provider.

Pass a background check: The state of Florida requires all real estate license applicants to undergo a background check, which includes a review of your criminal history and financial records. If you have a criminal history, you may still be eligible for a license, but you may be required to disclose this information on your license application.

Take and pass the state licensing exam: After completing your pre-licensing education, you will need to take and pass the state licensing exam. The exam consists of a national portion and a state portion, and covers topics such as real estate law, real estate principles, and real estate practices.

Apply for a real estate license: After passing the state licensing exam, you will need to apply for a real estate license through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). You will need to submit an application, along with the appropriate fees, and provide proof of completion of your pre-licensing education.

Find a sponsoring broker: In order to work as a real estate agent in Florida, you must work under the supervision of a licensed broker. You will need to find a broker who is willing to sponsor you and your license.

Complete post-licensing education: Once you have obtained your real estate license and have found a sponsoring broker, you will need to complete 45 hours of post-licensing education within the first two years of being licensed.

It is important to note that the requirements for becoming a real estate agent in Florida may change over time, so it is important to check with the DBPR for the most up-to-date information.
